I have taught systematic theology at Wheaton since 2001.

I grew up on a farm outside Bloomdale, Ohio, a town of 700. I gained a B.A. in Computer Information Systems, with minors in Bible and Greek, from Cedarville University. I then pursued an M.Div. in Christian Education and a Th.M. in New Testament from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. From there it was on to Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where I began a Ph.D. under Kevin Vanhoozer in 1998. In 2000-2001 I taught at TEDS while beginning my dissertation, finished in 2002.

On January 1, 2005, I married Amy Black (Treier), who teaches Political Science at Wheaton, having arrived in 2001 as well. Our daughter Anna Renee arrived on February 27, 2008.

My ecclesiastical background includes Methodist, (Grace) Brethren, Baptist, Evangelical Free, (briefly) Anglican, and now Presbyterian churches; my theological commitments are evangelical and eclectic, (very) broadly in the Reformed tradition. Currently I serve as an elder at our church, helping especially with adult education.

Hobbies, aside from chasing after Anna, include reading, watching baseball, reading, golfing, and reading.
